2023 Benefits Open Enrollment

It's time to review your benefits and make your elections for the coming year!

The annual open enrollment period begins Monday, May 15, 2023 and continues through Tuesday, June 6, 2023. During this time, you will have the opportunity to review and make changes to your benefits.  Changes become effective on July 1, 2023.

An updated process & website from OHR for the first year of employment.

This tool for new employees and supervisors of new staff members supports a new hire’s transition to their role at Amherst College and our community. This new approach provides new hires and supervisors information and resources when it’s applicable to their stage of onboarding with the ability to digest it at their own pace. The process builds in opportunities for feedback and growth to help new hires feel welcome and energized to bring themselves and their talents to work every day. Announcing Changes to Compensation

On March 25, 2022, the President’s Office announced changes to compensation that will result in an increase in pay for many of our extraordinary employees. The well-deserved increases will be in effect as of the first April 2022 payroll. They reflect a strategic investment that will also assist hiring managers with recruiting and retaining talent at a time of market pressures and labor shortages.

Converting Casual Positions to Benefited Positions in Dining Services

The President’s Office announced on Nov. 17, 2021 that the College is placing a priority on converting a significant number of casual positions to regular benefited positions.

TIAA Individual Counseling Sessions

TIAA members can receive personalized advice and education from a TIAA financial consultant, at no additional cost. We are using TIAA’s services for the scheduling of individual counseling sessions. To schedule your appointment, please call TIAA at their special scheduling number, 800-732-8353 or visit their online scheduling page and select “Your Employer,” Massachusetts, Amherst to see the openings. Licensed representatives will be available to speak to you about your planning goals and needs via phone or video chat.

Counseling Sessions Through the EAP

Each member of the Amherst College staff and faculty—and their household members— is eligible for up to 6 counseling sessions per issue per year through our Employee Assistance Program (EAP), New Directions. This benefit is completely confidential and is at no cost to the individual. Please note that the EAP can provide support on any issue, there are no limits. In addition to emotional support, the EAP also offers crisis support, coaching, legal and financial consultation, substance use disorder education, adult and child care resources, leadership support, resources and referrals, and much more.

COVID-19 Vaccine Exemption

The College is requiring that all staff and faculty be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. It is our hope that these vaccination requirements for all colleagues will provide additional protection for everyone in our community. The College will also require that all community members who are eligible receive a booster.

Employee Referral Bonus for Dining Services and Community Safety Assistant Job Referrals

  • Employees will receive a $1,000 award for referring a prospective staff member for an advertised, open vacancy in a casual, full- or part-time Dining Services or CSA position. The bonus will be subject to applicable payroll tax withholdings.
  • The referral bonus will be paid out once the new staff member completes one month of service.
