FOLIO, the New Library System is Here!

Thank you for your patience as the Five College Libraries transitioned to a new library system. We are pleased to announce that FOLIO is now live! As of 7/7, you can check books out from Frost, and we have begun processing the requests we’ve already received. You’ll receive an email when your request is available for pickup. If you experience any problems searching/logging into Discover or submitting requests, Contact us! Learn more about our system transition.

Folio, a new library system, is coming!

This summer the Five Colleges Libraries will implement the FOLIO library services platform. After several years of collaboration and planning, we’re excited about the opportunities this adaptive system will provide. At the end of June we will also retire the separate Five Colleges Libraries Catalog search interface, consolidating the discovery and access of library materials in Discover, which we’ve used since 2012. 

Final preparations for migration will begin following the end of the spring semester. While we aim to complete this work with minimal system downtime for the community, some services will pause in the lead up to migration, and as FOLIO comes online at the end of June. Learn more:

Solidarity Book Project!

Do you believe in the transformative power of books? Do you think art can impact change? The Solidarity Book Project was envisioned by Professor of Art Sonya Clark ‘89, as one way for Amherst College to recommit to a more equitable future in its Bicentennial year. Sonya is hosting workshops this spring where she'll teach us how to sculpt the iconic solidarity fist into pages of books that have shaped our understanding of solidarity. Mail your sculpted books in to be featured in the final exhibition at Frost Library! Read more here, and register for the make-with workshops.

Martin Garnar named Director of the Library

Martin Garnar has been named director of the library at Amherst College, it was announced by Catherine Epstein, Provost and Dean of the Faculty. He joins the College from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, where he was dean of the Kraemer Family Library and a faculty member. Garnar will assume the position on August 1, 2020.

Fall Zotero Workshops

Zotero [zoh-TAIR-oh] is a free application that collects, manages, and formats citations and bibliographies. Zotero also helps organize your research by allowing you to attach PDFs, notes, and images to your references. You can arrange your sources into collections for different projects and tag them for easy searching.
